Democrat Kathy Hochul Makes History as New York’s First Female Governor

In a historic victory, Democrat Kathy Hochul secured the governorship of New York, marking a significant milestone as the first woman elected to the position in the state. Hochul’s campaign, which emphasized abortion rights protection, resonated with voters, leading her to a 5.4 percent margin win over her opponent, Lee Zeldin, who focused on crime reduction measures.

Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer celebrated a landmark fifth term win, making him the first New Yorker to achieve such a reelection milestone. Meanwhile, Attorney General Leticia James reaffirmed her commitment to investigating former President Donald Trump’s businesses.

In notable state House races, several seats shifted to Republican control, including the 17th District won by Mike Lawler over Democrat Sean Patrick Maloney, the vacancy left by Lt. Gov. Antonio Delgado claimed by Republican Marcus Molinario, and the seat previously held by Democrat Max Della Pia now in the hands of Republican Nick Langworthy. Additionally, Republican Anthony’s victory over Laura Gillen marked another notable win for the GOP in New York’s political landscape.
