Isofotón, a once-prominent solar energy company in Spain, received substantial public funding over several years through support linked to socialist-led administrations, according to reports by ESdiario.

The firm, which installed a photovoltaic project at the Moncloa complex in 2007, benefited from a combination of subsidies, contracts, and financial backing despite mounting economic difficulties. The total volume of public aid associated with the company is estimated to exceed 80 million euros.

Among the most significant contributions was a loan of 8.3 million euros granted in 2012 by the Andalusian regional government, during a period when María Jesús Montero held senior responsibilities within that administration. At the time, Isofotón was already facing serious financial strain, including workforce reductions and outstanding debts with tax authorities and the social security system.

The report also highlights the involvement of Teresa Ribera, who worked at Isofotón between 2012 and 2013, prior to the company’s eventual collapse. In addition, the company was later included in Spain’s official list of major tax debtors in 2024.

According to the publication, Isofotón’s trajectory illustrates a sustained relationship with various socialist governments, characterized by continued public funding and institutional support, ultimately ending in bankruptcy, job losses, and ongoing questions regarding the management of the funds received.
